Owning a vacation rental in the Seaside Park real estate market comes with a whole list of responsibilities and stressors.  Security is a big one.  There are many ways to help make your property secure.  From smart locks to alarm systems, it is always a good idea to invest in security features for your rental home.  A lot of time and money goes into owning a vacation home and one of the worst things that can happen is theft.  While there is no way to ever guarantee that a house is theft-resistant, there are a lot of things that you can do to help prevent it.

Keyless Entry

Rather than having to change the lock after every renter or go with a fingers-crossed approach that no one has made a copy of your key can all be avoided by installing a keyless entry lock on your property.  These locks allow you to change the entry code after every renter ensuring the security of your home, your possessions, and your future renters.  Some of these locks can be accessed by an app on your phone which is a huge convenience but also makes them potentially vulnerable to cyber hacking.

Make it Seem Like Someone Lives There

Even when there are no occupants, it’s best to make it seem like the house has inhabitants.  The yard should be kept uncluttered and neatly manicured, lights should be put on timers, and exterior lights should be on a timer or motion-sensors so there is no place to hide.  All these things help a house look like there is someone coming and going regularly which will help to deter would-be thieves.  Another tip is to not put a sign out front that advertises that the home is empty like a vacancy sign.

Keep Personal Information to a Minimum

When a potential renter inquires about your property, keep the information strictly about the property and keep as many details to yourself until payment is received and the booking is complete.  When decorating your vacation rental, avoid putting pictures of yourself and your family.  The alternative side to this tip is regarding the listing for your property.  If you can avoid giving out the exact address until booking is concluded, that is advised.  When taking exterior photos, try not to give away too much about the location of your home.

Seaside Park Real Estate Agents Say Install an Alarm

Whether it includes cameras or just an alarm system, any type of home security technology is a good idea.  Not only does it help to keep your investment safe, but it also helps to keep your renters safe as well.  Make sure to leave detailed instructions on how to operate the system and that renters are comfortable using it.

There is so much that goes into owning a vacation rental in the Seaside Park real estate market.  From bookings and cleaning to problems and security, an owner always has something to do.  One of the best things you can do to protect your property is investing in the security of all types.  Less is more does not apply when it comes to security.
