8 Ways to Kill a Job Interview
by CovertRecruiter in Interview Strategies, Professional Tips, Uncategorized
In my own job hunt – right now a CYA move in case my contracting gig comes to an end in the new year – I come across some articles that I am compelled to share.
This one exists as a link from one of my networing sites (as mentioned in a previous post, if you aren’t on some professional site and joinig groups and actually reading what they send, you are doing yourself a disservice).
Some of you may have flashbacks while reading it, but don’t worry – like hindsight and Monday Morning Team Meeting Replay Shots, you can learn from your mistakes.
In short, the 8 Ways That Can Cause an Interview to Take a Nosedive are as follows:
1. You’re caught off guard by an illegal question
2. You have to address the “sticky widget” in your past
3. You give a “ho-hum” answer
4. You ramble (watch out for the tendency to fill the imposed silences with jabber)
5. You lack an important skill
6. You lose steam
7. You experience a wardrobe malfunction (yes, guys, it can happen to you too)
8. Your cell phone rings (hey, you must also be that guy in the movie theater last week!)
Since I don’t want to risk a plagarism charge (but mostly since I am catching up from a long weekend and don’t have lots of time), if you’d like to read the full original article, click here.
After the Holiday weekend I’ll share another article on How to Make a Great Interview.
Happy Hunting!
